No billable hours

2. Corporate jobs (not IB) rarely go past 5:00.

3. The money is about the same as law (but the per hour earnings are much better).

4. If you pick the right concentration, the work is actually interesting and often fun.

5. No bar, no continuing education, no license to get tagged with every infraction... Oh yeah, and you CAN lie on your resume if you want (nobody will know).

6. Fewer HUGE egos.

7. Much more flexability if you want to change directions during your career.

8. Smaller student loans and less time in school.

Do employers call references from 1L summer?

Do employers call references from 1L summer?

Date: July 26th, 2006 2:39 PM
Author: trolljunkie

My impression is that Covington is the only one that does this on any consistent basis.

Date: July 26th, 2006 11:41 AM
Author: Renada Deshada

i was going to post a categorical no, as this had never happened to me, nor had i ever heard of it happening. so this is interesting information. i'd suggest, though, it probably isn't a wide practice, and is probably more likely at an extremely selective firm like covington. i'd imagine the 1L firm was a pretty good one, too, if there was 30 minutes of conversation in what a 1L summer associate had done.

Baseball Card Article Creates a Stir

Slate.com had an article that took notice of the bursting of the baseball card bubble.
